Ode aan de flaneur
Hermès just launched its fantastical exhibition “Wanderland” at the Saatchi Gallery in London. The exposition pays homage to the “flâneur” and the “flânerie” which is the act of wandering aimlessly in the city streets while indulging in its details of everyday life. Of course, the idea of strolling around (or flâner) was a common theme between artists with the rise of the city (Walter Benjamin drew from Charles Baudelaire’s poetry the meaning behind the flâneur) . The display showcases different surreal moments directed by set designer Hubert le Galle. The magical sets that were created placed the flâneur back in the city- a fantastic city.
